BLACK WATER
Black Water
Up into the sky it shimmers
High from a chopper’s perch
Where ever you look, the rice paddies
Tiny squares of black water
The engine noise is deafening
We have to shout just to hear
Skimming loudly over
This country of black water
Little ant people moving
Walking with the buff
Stepping in and out of
The putrid black water
Zinging noises start popping
Holes in the metal appear
Marine on the sixty starts shooting
The deadly black water
Below the ant people start running
Geysers jump in the air
Men in the chopper are screaming
Over this stinking black water
Two men are hit in the chopper
We’re headed back to the base
One is not gonna make it
Away from the deadly black water
One dead and one other wounded
Wasted for nothing it seems
All for a flight into nowhere
Over this goddamn black water
