The Bill Of Rights

Treason
What action can we more detest than treason?
An act of betrayal against a brother’s trust
Abject disloyalty to your own family, countrymen and State
To lie down with those intending us harm and destruction
Treachery of the lowest order, inflicted upon your own
We Americans are a forgiving lot
In our history treason has been rarely tried
Few have been charged, fewer brought to trial
Only a handful of traitors successfully punished
Yet the examples have been numerous
This treason does not have to be blatant
It can come in many forms, deeds and words
No need to pull a trigger, plant a bomb
Yet “Treason by any other name is still treason.”
No matter how simple or cavalier
There are persons in our country, American citizens all
Who deem it is their duty
To disrupt, speak out and interfere
With the policies of our government
Against the actions that have been chosen
We Americans own a distrust of large government
It is inbred in us all, an American tradition
To discuss, question, and criticize
Our leader’s orders and the law
In democracy this is healthy, however there are always flaws
With this freedom comes responsibility
Knowing where to draw the line
To stop before it becomes dangerous
Of knowing when our acts of freedom become helpful
To those who would wish us harm
In times of conflict this is doubly so
When no declaration of war is needed
For our soldiers to enter a fight
Our children, brothers and sisters dying
And yet this is the time of the traitor’s most wanton acts
While American men and women were dying
In far off South Vietnam
A young actress turned activist traveled to that Northern shore
Giving Aid and Comfort to our foe
With words and deed alike
She and others back home like her
Encouraged our enemy to continue their struggle
Building up their morale, resolve and courage
In the hope that they would win
And bring America to Her knees
Today in our new struggle
Another war in a far off land
A journalist employed by American TV
Again gives Aid and Comfort to an enemy
By appearing in an interview
While our servicemen and women are fighting
He sits for all the world to see
And encourages those who would defeat us
With his treachery and his lies
Excitedly he tells them to simply hold their course
Back on our home shores
Protesters march again
Holding signs of treason high, again for all to see
“We support our troops who kill their officers.”
Expounds their disloyalty at its worst
While a “demonstration” in Oakland turned violent
And violent it should be
When these traitors to our country
Try to sabotage or stop the shipments
Of our loyal troop’s supplies
This perfidy is hidden behind the rights of free speech
The culprits, traitors and criminals wave it like a flag
Forgoing any responsibility for which their actions bring
Urging our enemies to fire on our countrymen
And all the while declaring it is their right to speak
The Constitution states a must for two witnesses
And while these vile acts were seen be millions
With their words echoed to millions more
These traitors go unpunished
In fact sorrowfully, do not suffer in the least
It is our own brave sons and daughters
Who have placed themselves in harms way
Providing for our protection
Ensuring our American rights and freedoms
Saving our very lives, while laying down their own
They are the ones suffering the consequences
Of the traitor’s words and deeds
They alone pay the price brought forward
For the Aid and Comfort given
By these very scoundrels whose rights they unselfishly protect
It is time to shift the payment for this treacherous toll
Upon those who will betray us
To teach the villains a hard stern lesson
That with free speech comes responsibility
And stop these evil doings from harming our country’s heroes
Now more than ever we must come to understand
That sometimes this freedom of speech can simply go too far
When for whatever may be the reasons
The traitors sow their devilish seeds
That treason is still treason when you turn against your own
